This painting has over 16 layers of individual glazing or transparent/semi transparent glazes some Brilliant green, Cadmium Yellow, Arylide Yellow & Green Gold or a mix. By slowing my process down considerably (#slowart), it feels like invitation to culture care rather than creating content, the hustle for the next show, next sale is decreasing. It’s a curious dance into the unknown, the age old question of when is a painting finished dissolves with each session. Im unsure if it should ever stop. Perhaps there are moments that as good to pause and regain your breath. watching the light shifts as the original definition in the chart format morphs into a different plane. The process of slowing down, listening, waiting for the layers to dry all seems counter cultural. I am finding the process simultaneously deeply confronting and deeply rewarding at the same time, the painting becoming more of an extension of my own musings.

One thing that is becoming profoundly real to me, is now I have started this journey I can’t go back.

The top image is the painting completed, and the below is the first layer of this work, I wanted to post an image of the work in its raw state. Over the next few months I will revisit this work and add transparent layers. It is a mediative process, I have to focus, be very methodical and slow in my application, allowing the work to breathe and tell me what colour to apply next. Each layer needs several days to dry before the next is applied so it’s a commitment of time and trust that the work will reveal when it is finished.
