iPad drawing, the difference between working from photograph or plein air

March 21, 2022

These two drawings were done specifically to share with Cortneys graphic design class who are just starting to learn how to do iPad drawing. I wanted to demonstrate visually the difference between engaging three dimensionally - physically in a space v’s working from a two diminutional image. In both classes they all agreed the bottom drawing was the most engaging and successful. It was done in-situ within an hour, the top image at home, took about 3-4 hours on and off - looking at a photograph. I think this was a powerful demonstation about energy and presence.
